Green consumption is being a popular trend all over the world. The demand for wood pallets will countinue to rise in future.

Only count in the south central province of Binh Dinh, Vietnam currently has more than 80 companies specialising in the production and export of wood pallets according to Nguyen Thanh Phong, chairman of Phu Tai Bioenergy JSC.

For the Japanese market, manufactures are most gathered in the center of the province, while those in the south ship to the Republic of Korea.

The gas supply in European is effected due to the confict between Russia- Ukraine conflict. Therefore, giving a chance for wood pallets from Vietnam to enter the European market, he told this to Vietnam Agriculture newspaper in his interview.

At this moment, Vietnam factories are using wood from planted forests as the raw material in the production of woodchips. However, in the long run, they are plaining to use also other materials as elephant grass. It is a kind of tufted perennial grass that can grow in stand up to 4m high.

If this new material is effectively used as input material for the production of wood pallets, the industry will no longer worry about the raw materials and farmers’ income will be improved as well according to Mr. Phong.

Masayoshi Pelle Ito, deputy director of the energy and chemical division of Itochu Vietnam Co. Ltd, said the exports of wood pellets to Japan have increased in recent years.

He also noted that the world tends to use wood pellets to replace coal in thermal power generation to reduce carbon emissions, so the demand for wood pellets will be extremely high in the future.

Japan imported1.6 million tonnes of wood pellets from Vietnam in 2021 and it is increased to 2.5 million tonnes last year only. The number is expected to reach 4-5 tonnes from 2025, he said.
